Class Descriptions
Student class placement will be determined at the time of studio tour and assessment.
Beginner
Beginner Ballet
Dancers will learn basic ballet movements and terminology through fun songs and training exercises. The perfect introduction for any dancer just starting out their ballet journey. Attire requirements for this class are a leotard, tights, and ballet shoes.
Beginner Tap
Dancers will learn the fundamentals of tap dance including both steps and rhythms. They will use age-appropriate songs and hands-on activities to grow their vocabulary and motor skills in the genre of tap. Dancers also learn the procedures and expectations of class.
Beginner Combo
Combo is an introduction to movement through fun dance games and exercises. It will include tap, ballet, and jazz basic for dancers ages 3-5. Dancers in this class will need tap and ballet shoes and are welcome to wear any comfortable dance attire.
Mini Company
(Ages 4-6)
Mini Company is the first introduction to competitive dance. It is for the younger dancer, ages 4-6 that are ready to experience competitive dance, without a large time commitment.
The Perception Mini Team will attend two regional competitions and two studio showcases.
Beginner Tumbling
This class is an introduction to tumbling. Dancers will increase strength and flexibility while learning basic tumbling skill such as forward and backward rolls, back bends, and cartwheels.
Mini Company
(Ages 6-8)
Mini Company is the first introduction to competitive dance. It is for the younger dancer, ages 6-8 that are ready to experience competitive dance, without a large time commitment.
The Perception Mini Team will attend two regional competitions and two studio showcases
Intermediate / Advanced
Ballet
Ballet is the foundation of many dance forms and teaches posture, placement of arms, legs and feet, artistry, and self-esteem. All PDC teachers follow a custom syllabus that ensures our students are taught the same, correct technique and unifies our program. This syllabus is based on the Vaganova and Cecchetti methods, with the Balanchine method introduced at advanced levels.
Tap
Using a leveled syllabus, dancers will learn new tap steps that include various rhythms, difficulty, and styles. Classes include warm-ups, progressions, and combinations. The dancers will also learn about famous tap dancers from history and how tap is performed professionally.
Technique (7-10)
This class includes a warm up and stretching followed by jazz technique training which includes leaps, turns, and technical progression combinations across the floor for dances between the ages of 7 and 10.
School Dance Team Technique
This is a technique class for anyone interested in participating in their middle school dance team. Working on leaps, turns, flexibility and tricks.
Pointe
Pointe is part of classical ballet technique where dancers are on the top of their toes. Pointe work is performed while wearing pointe shoes and requires a solid ballet foundation. Before starting, students are required to be at least 11 years of age, have had 3 years of training, and receive teacher approval.
Hip Hop
This is a fun and high energy class where dancers will learn different hip hop combos and tricks each week. This class helps dancers learn musicality and boost their confidence in their hip hop and performance abilities.
Stretch & Technique
This class includes a warm up and stretch followed by jazz technique training which includes leaps, turns, and technical progression combinations across the floor.
Flexibility
Dancers use both static and dynamic stretching exercises to increase their flexibility, mobility, and strength. The students will use resistance equipment to work on technical goals that are set for individuals and the studio as whole.
Tumbling
Students will increase their strength and flexibility while learning a variety of tumbling skills. These classes train in the basics as well as front and back walkovers, front and back handsprings, aerial cartwheels, front aerials, back tucks, and a variety of other acrobatics.
Combo/Improv
This class includes a warm up and stretch followed by jazz technique training which includes leaps, turns, and technical progression combinations across the floor.
Strength & Conditioning
This class includes strength and cardio training. Tennis shoes are necessary to participate.
Body Awareness
This is a class time dedicated to detailed movement quality and transitional movement. Dancers will find opportunities in this class that they might not receive in a technical class setting.
